Made in Dafen

(2025)

“Made in Dafen” is a feature film that discusses the nature of Art. Filmed on location in Dafen, district of Shenzhen, Southeast China, it presents a place that is home to hundreds of painters with a very unique characteristic in common: they have specialized in copying to enormous detail the great masters of art, such as Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Vermeer, Monet and many others. They have studied with great depth their lives, styles, brush strokes and colours of choice. The result is an international market of millions of dolars, spanning from China to many other countries around the world. But lately, Dafen has attracted a different kind of artist – people searching their own voice and Art, changing the landscape and igniting a new controversy about what we call Art. (1×73′)
